Jewish Life in Grenada

Keeping kosher while studying in Grenada is possible. The major grocery store on the island, IGA, stocks many kosher items found in the U.S. that are non-perishable. These include canned foods, some starches, snacks, and others. However, kosher dairy products sometimes may not be available. There are times when Oneg cheeses are available but it is not guaranteed. Some breads (those locally baked) may not be kosher either as there is no supervision where they are baked.

Kosher meat is currently available via New York’s Finest Bagels, a restaurant here in Grenada. They offer Glatt Kosher meats such as cold cuts (turkey, bologna, and others) as well as chicken. The meat served by the restaurant is Glatt kosher (mostly Hod Golan or Empire Kosher) and is shipped in via the U.S. Because all meat is imported, there may be times when some items may not be available.

For those who maintain high kashrut standards, please be informed that the actual restaurant does have a hashgacha by Rabbi Rozmarin.

It is possible to purchase meats directly from them that have not been cooked in the store if needed.

Kosher items are available almost all year.
